Astroclubul București at Astrofest 2021

Astroclubul București was an active partner, among other clubs and associations, in organizing the biggest astronomy event in Romania: AstroFest 2021, a public event organized by Știință & Tehnică (Science & Technology) magazine in a Bucharest park on July 23-24, 2021.

At our stand we displayed meteorite fragments under a microscope, a replica of a 16th century astrolabe, astrophotography and a planetarium for persons with visual impairment from our project "The sky in your hands" (will post another topic about this project).

A second stand was our "Junior Astroclub" project dedicated to activities for children. More than 300 children attended our activities: they made drawings of the Moon, they found interesting facts about the planets and how they orbit around the Sun, together we measured the distance between the planets - through the park (!), they made drawings of the stars and photographed the parallax and found out how far away are the stars in the Cassiopeia and Ursa Major constellations.

During the day we organized public observing sessions of the Sun through our equipment: the Lunt solar telescope (in the wavelength line of ionized hydrogen - Hydrogen alpha) and through telescopes equipped with solar filters, while in the evening we had public observing sessions of a few visible stars: Vega, Arcturus, Altair, Mizar and Alcor, followed by Moon and planets: Jupiter with the four Galilean satellites (all visible) and Saturn with two of its satellites visible.

Enjoy the photos.

Cheers,
