Unity
As long as we have eyes to see
the beauty of the night
And hands to hold when fear prevails
Freedom reigns in spirits bright.
If faith and hope are the only choices
for those fleeing from wars
then bless the ones who remain and fight
to protect their precious shores.
Will words of poetry help those in need
or possibly save one life?
I doubt a situation will resolve
using a tank, gun or knife.
I have never fought in a battle, true.
I have no war story or military guise
but I feel the angst of mothers
sobbing tears in final goodbyes.
This terror, this war, overwhelms
any sense of world solidarity,
I have nothing else to offer
but a poem for unity.
