Golden Grains of Sand

If more stars exist in the darkness above

than golden grains of sand on Earth,

how can we count stars in a universe 

that continues to expand?

Human lives eventually end,   

as the universe births more stars. 

Will the wind and sea tumble our remains, 

Into tiny grains of sand?

Someday,  so far away, 

will we turn into stardust 

rising to greet new stars?

Or will our remains eternally rest on ocean floors

as shimmering golden grains of sand?
