Cosmic Multicultural Bucharest in the Pandemic (86):
The Last Song of Maria Tanase
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe (astro-photo-poem-essay) and Florin Alexandru Stancu (design)
It is hard to see the Sun in the Youth District, among its blocks of flats built in the 1980s.
It is easier to notice games of light and shadow.
On January 26, 2022
I found a restaurant here from the interwar period, right in the area where “the Lady of the traditional Romanian song”, Maria Tanase (1913-1963), spent her childhood.
This building reminded me that she said in a poem that she would like to go to the Big Dipper.
That night I thought that,
to the desired destination,
maybe Maria Tanase now sings traditional Romanian music
in a brighter constellation,
Orion.
