Cosmic Multicultural Bucharest in the Pandemic (131):
Talking to Omar Khayyam

I think I've never photographed the Moon as thin as October 18, 2020.
So I decided to dedicate this picture to the golden age of Arab Muslim culture that enlightened the world from Baghdad to Cordoba and beyond for centuries.
That was the time of a brilliant continuation of Oriental and Greek astronomy with amazing lunar calendars and achievements in star astronomy, innovating models, instruments and observatories.
For me, the main symbol of that age in Bucharest is the statue of Omar Khayyam in the Kiseleff Park, which I went to photograph in two days in October 2020.

Poet and astronomer, mathematician and philosopher, Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) had a Persian origin and is unforgettable for his quatrains, “Rubaiyat”.

So unforgettable that I dedicated a quatrain to him, along with the “Boat Moon”, a rare picture I took on October 15, 2020:

Omar Khayyam, friend of mankind,
You committed great astro-acts
And I like to fill my poor mind
With your fine heavenly products.
