Dan-George Uza, Marian Niculescu and I, all amateur astronomers, also meditated at the tomb of Admiral Vasile Urseanu (1848-1946), the first great commander in Romanian navigation - the one who was a hero in the Romanian War of Independence, led the first Romanian training ship (the Mircea brig) and an expedition through the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
Sailing for a long time at sea, he fell in love with the starry sky, and after retirement he became the president of the first Romanian astronomical society (1908) and created the first private astronomical observatory in Bucharest, which today represents the even symbolic building of amateur astronomy in Romania and has become the Municipal Public Observatory.
