AN ASTROPOETIC MEDALLION WITH ADRIAN SIMA

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

Recently, I led a small jury that decided that the no.1 astropoet in Romania in 2023 was... Adrian Sima (physics teacher at a high school, mathematics teacher at a university and priest!).

I have allowed myself an introductory astro-haiku to three of his creations this year, which will follow in the form of an astropoetic cycle.

THREE ASTROPOEMS

By Adrian Sima

.

HAMMER AND FEATHER

.

In 1971, during the Apollo 15 lunar mission,

a falcon feather (0.3 g) and a hammer (1.3 kg)

were dropped simultaneously by astronaut David Scott

and hit the lunar surface at the same time,

just like Galileo had postulated three centuries earlier.

.

A beautiful event over time,

since the old physicist-cleric was the first

to look through the telescope at the future scene

of this experiment that will confirm his theory...

.

And this is how the hammer and the feather,

chisels with which people have always written

their knowledge,

carved in the gravity of the Cosmos

the law of universal attraction.

.

IN THE LIGHT OF THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

.

“10 to the power of 27...

this is the diameter of the observable universe!" -

the astronomer said to himself,

looking at his spread fingers

like a child learning to count.

.

“10 to the power of 80..

that's the number of atoms in the Universe!” -

thought the child building sand castles

under the round and gentle sun above him.

.

“10 to the power of 9...

that's how many seconds have fit

into my life so far:!” -

murmured the young man,

dreaming of immortality.

.

Like puppeteers with strings of rays and shadows...

stepping on the catalysts of gravity

we think we are

the logarithmic masters of the Cosmos,

subduing infinite mathematics

with the power of our 10 fingers.

.

But to count is to define yourself,

to multiply yourself,

and to divide yourself with others...

from 10 to 10,

like the stone touched by the Commandments.

.

THE STARS ARE LOOKING AT US

.

The blue planet casts our gaze in all directions

as if sending back to their gravitational realms

all the meteors that have burned

in its shell of air and hope.

.

From this sphere with an average density

of five and a half times that of water,

we open our eyelids every evening

like the sails of a living ship...

and sail sleeplessly through the astral seas

like nightingales about to become seagulls.

.

With hearts, with lungs and blood,

we fly through space with palms closed in

longing and atoms quivering with life...

.

...stars look at us

as their stars

.

...their living dust

with hands and face.

.

And we burn

with a young, unquenchable light,

with eyes open to ourselves,

like the Pleiades in a summer sky...
