SOLAR ECLIPSES AND SARM (12)

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

.

I dedicate this series to Astronomers Without Borders in response to the fact that this organization is the guarantor of a new SARM expedition, this time for the observation of the total solar eclipse of April 8, 2024.

Since I will also be present in the Dallas area to observe this phenomenon, which will crown the Global Astronomy Month in 2024, I hope to be able to create a SARM mini-anthology of astropoetry on this topic for AWB in May.

Until then, I wish you clear skies and I conclude with some other creations about solar eclipses in the history of SARM:

.

I am the friend of a dragon

that eats the Sun.

“Sing for me,” he said,

“I miss so much

the mythological hero

who would kill me...”

(Dan Mitrut, 1999, during a total solar eclipse)

.

The Sun is our king;

the eclipse puts the crown

on his forehead.

(Zigmund Tauberg, about a total solar eclipse)

.

Many nights

sky lovers watch

heavenly bodies writing poems

on the constellations' symphonies.

But when the Sun blends with the Moon

for a partial eclipse in the morning...

this could be a heavenly blues!

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe, 2003, during a partial solar eclipse)

.

The solar eclipse

gives us dreams to the sky -

the Moon watches over them.

(Tit Tihon)

.

And finally, one of my favorite poems (which I wrote during a fascinating partial solar eclipse in 2011):

.

ECLIPSE POLICIER

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

“It seems that the Moon

has stolen a part of the Sun.”

“It’s elementary, Dr. Watson,”

replied Sherlock Holmes,

“a partial solar eclipse

is not included

in the catalogue of felonies.”

.

“However, medically,

I have to remark that the Sun

has lost some brightness.

So maybe we should arrest

the natural satellite.”

.

“It’s elementary, my dear Watson,”

replied the consultant detective,

“the Sun is so strong

that soon he will be free again.

But for her attractive show of force

during the daytime,

the Moon should be rather

complimented!”
