Comets, comets…

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

.

A mini-anthology of short astropoetry by SARM

(English translations by Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

Syllables in a poem -

comets hoping to plunge

onto a star

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

I dreamed that I had a comet in my bed…

I had been looking for her in the sky

for so many nights

and now I can no longer enjoy her,

I want another one,

or even her (why not?)

from the beginning,

from the times when

she could not be telescoped.

(Alec Bartos)

.

Comet Halley has an orbital period

of over 70 years.

Comet Hyakutake has an orbital period

of over 70,000 years.

I prefer the second one.

Living on it

I would avoid the noise pollution

of large terrestrial cities

for a longer time.

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

Maps of deep void -

unknown silence pulsates

in the abyss

(Alex Vizitiu)

.

Tailed star,

no matter how beautiful you are!

Until I register you

and give you a name,

you are just a dangerous visitor

in my sky.

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

It's not my fault,

that's what the comets taught me,

now they are good and discovered,

even decent and...

no one loves them anymore!

(Alec Bartos)

.

In a world full of rockets,

the sky becomes more and more strange,

and if you want to watch comets,

the satellite trails come to derange.

(Adrian Bruno Sonka)

.

Comet Swift-Tuttle got angry with me:

“Why do you count

my Perseid meteors every year?”

I replied:

“Because you never made

your wealth declaration

public!”

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

If the comet would let me discover it

from the beginning,

I would no longer regret the lost nights,

addicted to searching,

unsatisfied with success.

(Alec Bartos)

.

My star in my dream,

finite waiting

in comfortable caress.

(Constantin Kapitza)

.

Do not confuse Comet Halley

with Hale-Bopp

and do not

rhyme them with McNaught!

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)

.

Excuse me,

I'll leave everything for next time,

now one of the small comets is crying,

the Milky Way is not enough for it

or a black hole is hurting it.

(Alec Bartos)

.

Tailed stars teach us

a lot of things,

even to become wiser

than Comet NEOWISE!

(Andrei Dorian Gheorghe)
