About the Passion of the Herschels
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe
.
.
I'm always amazed at how many great things
musician astronomer William Herschel
and his son
telescopist astronomer John Herschel,
have done for astronomy
in the 18th and 19th centuries.
I recall that, among other things,
the first of them discovered the planet Uranus,
several satellites of Saturn and Uranus,
as well as some deep sky objects,
and the second discovered
dozens of deep sky objects.
.
But I'm not very good at all this,
so I can only conclude that
John Herschel had
more powerful telescopes,
and William Herschel was
a better musician!
