The Stars in the Sky

The Stars in the Sky

Through the ages we have looked up.
The sky above us has been a constant
Source of refuge for man. The place
Where we go to escape the disappointments
In life! From the beginning the stars have
Been there.

Inspired by the August Journal of 2023 from the RASC

Hi All,
Perhaps you wonder why I write about the ills of the world, because they are there and they are real. Today, while reading a Royal Astronomical Society of Canada publication, I was hit with another reality. Why I am an amateur astronomer. Yes, the stars are beautiful, but they have a story to tell. The stars belong to all of us. The peace that can be felt from sitting and viewing them is available to all who are willing to look! Some astronomers associate the stars with religion, some with learning and some with peace.
As I have written, “The sun continues to shine and the winds continues to blow”, but life goes on to end or renew. John Percy, wrote an article which was uplifting about “Caring about the Cosmos”. It suggests that man can find a common bond in the heavens. We are the result of stellar evolution. As Carl Sagan has said, “We are Star Stuff”. Like all creatures large and small, we are products of our environment. David Levy, writing about, “ Wendee Among the Stars and a Little Religion”, talked about the stars and the Bible. Each of these astronomers draws upon the notion that our  reference in life to all we are is, the heavens and its stars. The one constant throughout the history of man has been his reference to the stars. Whatever you feel, stop and look up. The Sun or the Moon or the planets and stars, will be there for you as they have been since the beginning! We pass through time, but the Stars seem timeless. Look up!
