Hubble Superbubble

A ‘superbubble’ called bizarre
by some star watchers from afar
albeit it known as N Four Four
emission nebula with score

or scores of stars midst gas aglow
in Magellanic Cloud’s outflow
with dusty lanes we dreamers stride
inside the Cloud termed Large was spied.

It seems a starry gap or hole
is interrupting stellar stroll
in upper central part of scene
on Hubble’s vast depicted screen.

Astronomers are mystified,
hypothesizing as to why’d
a chasm such as this appear;
the explanation’s still unclear.

If winds from astral bodies huge
had blasted out that subterfuge,
the measures of velocities
would tend their models to appease

and not show inconsistencies
for gusts colossal in degrees.
So maybe supernova burst
in chain reaction from the first

could be a cause for hollowed lair,
like cave terrestrial from where
primeval Man went scattering,
engaged in bouts of battering

evolving to earth-shattering,
to speak in tongues of chattering
and seek within the nattering
a smattering of mattering…

But I prefer the starry heights
and musings on those stellar sights
to current worldly pundits’ talk
at which my poet senses balk.

Down here it might be dubbed disease,
that supperbubble’s cosmic wheeze.
One dare not cough or sniff or sneeze
in such perplexing times as these.

Image explanation ~ N44 is an emission nebula filled with glowing hydrogen gas, dark lanes of dust, massive stars, and many populations of stars of different ages. One of its most distinctive features, however, is the dark, starry gap called a “superbubble,” visible in this Hubble Space Telescope image in the upper central region. The hole is about 250 light-years wide and its presence is still something of a mystery… Located in the Large Magellanic Cloud, N44 spans about 1,000 light-years and is about 170,000 light-years away from Earth.
