Relativity Rings

Relativity Rings
‘When one’s contemplating a mystery,’
said Einstein in musings e’er apropos,
‘such as how to fathom or seek to know
reality, much less eternity,’
‘one can’t help but be overcome with awe,’
to phrase his passage my verses to fit.
In striving to grasp a little of it
and witness a bit of what Einstein saw
he says we must stop feeling separate,
a sense that’s optically delusive
and nurture a vision more inclusive
by making an effort deliberate.
But let me turn to the vista portrayed
relating to aspects of Einstein’s thought
in which a phenomenon seldom caught
reveals hidden galaxy with the aid
of ‘cosmic mountains’ by gravity made
with hilly regions and valleys as well
environing where stellar bodies dwell
aglitter within each celestial glade.
An image depicted by Hubble Space
Telescope, through visual process by
Einstein first theorized thus to comply
with general relativity’s case
which states that gravity between masses
observed, from their warping spacetime ensues,
shows gravitational lensing to use
as colossal magnifying glasses.
For viewer in front in path of display
the light from the galaxy far behind
in background is bent by object aligned
ahead, in this instance, clustered array
of myriad galaxies and the one
at center, elliptical, that’s in line
almost exactly with distant light shine
created an image design to stun
with background galaxy twisting around
itself into nearly a perfect ring
enlarged, distorted in circular swing
by gravity curved and arcingly wound.
Located within constellation faint
of Fornax, the Furnace, it’s largest found
most whole ‘Einstein ring’, in consequence crowned
with title the “Molten Ring”, thus to paint
in words which to its appearance allude,
a rendering of this wonder on high—
which doesn’t diminish miracles nigh
like life or existence’s magnitude
to name a couple of marvels we take
for granted on earth and heavens o’erhead.
‘Our task is to free ourselves,’ Einstein said,
‘to unlock the gate to prisons we make
‘and widen our sphere of compassion to
embrace all beings and nature entire’—
I’d add, to purify human desire
thus seeing with sentient awareness true.
‘Fantastic, strange, very rare’ has been hailed
the picture of galaxy cluster shown
which illustrates how space knowledge has grown
with new revelations always unveiled.
Such marvels are seen as visions unfold
at least above us if not here below
where push comes to shove with each worldly woe
although ever more in space we behold.
And yet how much has humanity learned
in terms of the wonderment Einstein taught
who oft bemoaned what his teachings had wrought
as he realized how Mankind had turned
his insight of E equals m c squared
into horrific war weaponry’s start,
for which Einstein felt he had played a part,
in raining down ruin with nothing spared
at cost to the world unspeakably steep…
Oh, mortals, with perspective mistaken,
when oh when will you choose to awaken
from sleep of mind’s inborn delusion deep,
as is true enlightenment’s state innate,
embark on path of a fortunate fate,
for stakes are enormous and losses great,
lest change of heart be too little too late?

Some sources of inspiration were the following…
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
~ Albert Einstein (1879-1955)
“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day.”

Explanation: It is difficult to hide a galaxy behind a cluster of galaxies. The closer cluster’s gravity will act like a huge lens, pulling images of the distant galaxy around the sides and greatly distorting them. This is just the case observed in the featured image recently re-processed image from the Hubble Space Telescope. The cluster GAL-CLUS-022058c is composed of many galaxies and is lensing the image of a yellow-red background galaxy into arcs seen around the image center. Dubbed a molten Einstein ring for its unusual shape, four images of the same background galaxy have been identified. Typically, a foreground galaxy cluster can only create such smooth arcs if most of its mass is smoothly distributed -- and therefore not concentrated in the cluster galaxies visible.
