The Eye of Galaxy NGC

Stars in their intricacy agree

with dust picked out in the color chart.

Forty-eight million light-years from Earth

in the Fornax constellation lies

a barred spiral galaxy whose worth

is shown in the intricate disguise

of the web of stars and dust at core

picked out in discovered dark red hue

thanks to two gadgets shown in galore

with tendrils of dust in retinue.

The scope to which galaxy’s revealed

makes sense after delving into how

the images that were once concealed

add up after screening color now.

A helpful starting point is to think

how pictures like this one are composed.

Our eyes detect light waves in a blink

while brain interprets colors disclosed.

.

At any rate, wavelengths maximize

what humans might interpret as hue,

so let us amidst our sighs and whys

ponder what causes blue to be blue.

Eye of the Galaxy, NGC 1097

.

This finely detailed image shows the heart of NGC 1097, a barred spiral galaxy that lies about 48 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Fornax. This picture reveals the intricacy of the web of stars and dust at NGC 1097’s center, with the long tendrils of dust picked out in a dark red hue. The extent to which the galaxy’s structure is revealed is thanks to two instruments on the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope: the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) and the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS).
