As part of the Astronomers Without Borders global family — where we believe that "One People, One Sky" unites us — I’m excited to share an initiative that reflects the very heart of our mission.
🚀 Announcement: Launch of RADIIO - A Global Radio Astronomy Education Initiative
We are thrilled to announce the launch of RADIIO (Radio Astronomy for Development, Intercultural Innovation, and Outreach) — an educational project currently being implemented in Greece, Pakistan, and China.
📡 Designed for students aged 12–17 and their teachers, RADIIO uses the power of radio astronomy and science as a universal language to promote peace, intercultural understanding, and STEM education. Funded by the IAU Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD), the project will run through 2025.
💫 What Does RADIIO Offer? 🔹 Interactive Online Seminars – Explore astronomy, radio science, and data analysis using tools like Jupyter Notebooks.
🔹 Citizen Science Involvement – Contribute to the global Radio Galaxy Zoo EMU project.
🔹 Hands-On Activities – Build and operate a low-cost radio telescope to observe the Milky Way.
🔹 Intercultural Exchange – Present your findings at an international virtual workshop.
🌐 Why It Matters
RADIIO isn’t just about science — it’s about building global connections, promoting equality and inclusion, and inspiring students through collaboration and discovery. Participants gain valuable STEM skills, critical thinking, and recognition through certificates of participation.
📢 While the current phase of the project is limited to Greece, Pakistan, and China, we hope that the spirit and outcomes of RADIIO will pave the way for broader engagement in the future.
