In the recent days the scientific world was thrilled by the message about the return of an intriguing wanderer. It already visited our solar system in 2017 being detected by Pan-STARRS telescope (Panoramic Survey Telescope And Rapid Response System) located on the mountain top in Hawaii. As it has turned out later, the unusual, cigar-shape elongated object came from interstellar space and was initially called Oumuamua; a scout/messenger. Today, it's full name is: 1I/2017 U1 ('Oumuamua), where "I" refers to the category "interstellar" which was assigned by IAU for the first time in history.
In 2018 the scientists from the SETI Institute, by using the Allen Space Telescope, mapped the interstellar visitor in search for any radio transmission that could indicate its artificial origin. However, they didn't succeed then and the rocky cigar flew away into darkness of the Universe sparkling discussions and more or less controversial speculations…
Nevertheless, no-one could have ever anticipated that the scout will return. That's what just happens. According to the observations made by the JWST, Oumuamua precisely retraces the previously traversed path but what more intriguing, this time it isn't alone being accompanied by two other objects.
What does it mean? Well… For sure an epilogue which may bring the (un)expected answers. Therefore, we'll for sure try to look closer at the visitor, as over the years technology progressed. On the other hand, some people and scientist sound the alarm that it poses a serious threat, we've never faced before.
Let's follow this idea for a while, however scarce of arguments are given to support it. Are we doomed then? What kind of counteractions can we take? Will the (inter)national space forces constitute our first and simultaneously the last line of defence? Maybe that's why they were formed, among other things. But wait. It seems something is missing it this puzzling story. For instance 'Oumuamua Daily Reports' or the briefings of the governments' representatives informing the public about its current location. I haven't noticed anything like this so far. Besides, the world's attention is focused on much more mundane matters.
While the intriguing wanderer continues its journey towards Earth, a certain paradigm is "returning" together with him. Namely: Mutual Space Exploration Paradigm/Theory not fully accepted, against all appearances, by the scientific community and the decision-makers. It's based on a very simple correlation; if we can explore the Universe, to find other worlds and their inhabitants, they do precisely the same. Perhaps on a much wider scale.
Whoever is wrong or right, now we've a great opportunity to finally settle this (in)formal dispute. At least in the context of the interstellar messenger. Until it's explained, we should use common sense (albeit far from ignorance) and attentively watch the sky so that we wouldn't overlook something important. Meanwhile, by paraphrasing a well-known citation the truth is still out there. Staggering or disappointing…
