Worldbuilding with Moiya McTier - Where Science Meets Art
×
When:
Oct 7, 2021 from 21:00 to 21:00 (ET)
Science meets art this worldbuilding experience that brings the rigours of other worlds into an imagined reality. This is an invitation only event for Contributing and Sustaining Astronomers Without Borders members.
Astrophysicist and folklorist Dr. Moiya McTier is an expert on the visionary process of "worldbuilding," or creating a comprehensive fictional world. Anything that requires an imagined reality -- from novels to games to TV shows -- benefits from a fully fleshed out universe in which audiences can lose themselves. Moiya practices facts-based worldbuilding, a process that combines science and creativity to make your imagined worlds feel like they could be real. In this hour-long workshop, Moiya will get you to think about how the temperature of an alien planet's Sun can influence holiday celebrations, or how higher CO2 levels in a planet's atmosphere can affect an alien economy. This talk will kick-start your creative flow, helping you tap into Moiya’s process by establishing connections between the knowledge you already have and the fantastic world you want to create.
