IN THE SOUND OF THE LYRE
By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

(Author’s note: Don’t worry, this bracket is a self-parody. You know that there are
numerous established fixed poetic species and others proposed by newer inventors. This
poem has 10 lines: 1 and 10 (6 syllables each) and 4 and 7 (10 syllables each) rhyme,
while 2, 3, 5, 6, 8 and 9 have 6 syllables each and do not rhyme. I called this new, fixed
and impossible poetic species ‘tronzorom’.)

Watching Vega, I sing:
Was she Orpheus’ muse
after Eurydice?
I feel that I hear almost everything
from the sound of the Lyre
and I push my soul like
a ballet dancer on a fragile string
towards the nebula
that those with telescopes
see as a tender Ring.
