Quatrains about the Moon

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

.

In the last few weeks I have been working on a mini-anthology of the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy (SARM) including quatrains about the Moon. Initially I wanted to translate it in full into English, but this process proved too complicated, the quatrain being a very demanding poetic species (rhythm, rhyme, equality of syllables per line), so I resorted to a compromise: I selected only 10 out of over 40, I used rhymes only in lines two and four and I did not take into account the number of syllables per line, but I respected the spirit of each creation.

On this occasion, teacher Zigmund Tauberg sets his own world record for longevity in astropoetry at the age of 97 years and over 7 months.

Here is the mini-mini-anthology in English of the mini-anthology in Romanian:

SELENARY QUATRAIN

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

There isn't much atmosphere

On the Moon, nor is there a path

For you, in its immense seas,

To be able to take a bath!

.

FULL MOON

By Zigmund Tauberg

.

Full Moon, you are divine,

Gifts to gifts bring so much joy!

You take light from the Sun and

Give it to us as a happy envoy.

THE MOON WITHOUT FAULT

By Constantin Kapitza

.

We forget that it is a New Moon,

Or the Full Moon (with much pride!)…

Certainly, it is not her fault,

And you will not see her dark side!

.

IN THE DIVINE VERSES OF THE FIRST STEP / THE GIANT LEAP

By Tit Tihon

.

Terra wakes up in the rays of the Moon,

Dreaming of the man who left behind, solo,

On the long-revered lunar dust,

The space module of the god Apollo.

.

LUNAR QUATRAIN

By Stefan Cristache

.

No kingdom without a queen,

Pulsar tears are pessimism,

Oh, beloved Full Moon,

Interstellar mysticism!

.

ASTROQUATRAIN OF TEEN LOVE

By Danut Ionescu

.

When the Moon is slowly heading towards Eclipse,

Sit quietly, darling, in the first row, like a boss,

And from hidden formulas, ascensions, declinations,

We will make ephemerides for the asteroid Eros!

.

THE MOON

By Victor Chifelea

.

From the Sun she steals silver, noble garment,

But she shines pale, absconding and silent,

Shadows flicker in a cold, unknown white -

Echo of the night's light on my argument.

.

COMMON MOON TIME

By Ion(ut) Moraru

.

Time flows in different rhythms,

Einstein dedicated his eulogy to relativity,

Scientists have even invented atomic clocks…

What are the hours in lunar synchrony?

.

PERIGEE

By Elena Armenescu

.

There is an astral spectacle in the sky

When the Moon is at perigee,

And sleepwalkers climb houses phenomenally,

Reaching their own apogee.

.

CRATERS…

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

Tycho, Kepler, Copernicus -

Lunar craters, longer and shorter…

My girlfriend couldn't see them clearly

Because we were under the First Quarter!
