Astronomers Without Borders Enters an Exciting New Chapter with Associated Universities Inc.

AWB’s mission of connecting people around the world through astronomy will continue and grow as part of the nonprofit Associated Universities Inc. (AUI).

New Phase

For years, Astronomers Without Borders (AWB) has united people across cultures, countries, and continents through a shared sense of wonder about the night sky. Through initiatives such as Global Astronomy Month, international observing events, and the highly successful Eclipse Glasses Recycling Program, which redistributes donated eclipse glasses to communities around the world, AWB has helped make astronomy more accessible to people everywhere.

Today we are excited to share news about an important step forward that will help ensure this mission continues to thrive and expand.

Astronomers Without Borders is entering a new phase of its journey, operating as a program of the non-profit Associated Universities Inc. (AUI). Through this transition, we will continue efforts to implement signature programs like Global Astronomy Month, international outreach campaigns, and the Recycled Eclipse Glasses Program, now within a larger nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing science and education. This strategic move strengthens the long-term sustainability of AWB’s mission while opening new opportunities for growth, collaboration, and impact.

For supporters, volunteers, donors, and partners around the world, the most important message is simple: AWB’s non-profit work continues. Programs that have inspired astronomy enthusiasts across the globe will carry forward under the AWB name as a program under the AUI umbrella.

Becoming part of AUI provides AWB with strong organizational support, experienced governance, and access to a wider network within the scientific and education communities. This allows AWB’s charitable and education initiatives to operate with greater stability while focusing even more on expanding access to astronomy and inspiring curiosity about the universe.

At its heart, the mission remains unchanged: connecting people worldwide through the shared experience of exploring the cosmos.

Looking Ahead

This transition represents an exciting new chapter. With the support of AUI, AWB programs will be positioned to reach even more people around the world and continue building a global community inspired by the night sky.

We are deeply grateful to the volunteers, partners, donors, and supporters who have made AWB possible. Your passion for sharing astronomy has created something truly special.
