One People, One Sky: Celebrating Global Astronomy Month 2026
This April, the world turns its eyes upward. ASTRO, THE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY FOR TRAINING, RESEARCH AND OUTREACH (ASTRO) , in proud association with Astronomers Without Borders (AWB), is thrilled to announce a month-long series of outreach events for Global Astronomy Month (GAM) 2026.
Under the guiding philosophy of "One People, One Sky," we invite you to step away from your packed schedules and reconnect with the cosmos.
As the National Coordinator for AWB, I am honoured to lead an initiative that transcends borders through the shared language of the stars. Astronomy isn't just for scientists in observatories; it's a heritage for every human being.
What to Expect this April
Our schedule is packed with hands-on experiences designed to spark curiosity in veterans and newcomers alike:
🌕Moon Watch: Rediscover our nearest celestial neighbour. We will explore the lunar craters, plains, and mountains that have inspired humanity for millennia.
🪐Planet Watch: Peer into the vastness of our Solar System. Witness the rings of Saturn, the cloud bands of Jupiter, or the phases of Venus, bringing these distant worlds into sharp, personal focus through our high-powered telescopes.
☀️Sunspots Observations & Workshop: Safety-first solar viewing. Learn about our dynamic star and the magnetic storms that create visible sunspots on its surface.
🌌Exploring the Night Sky: A guided tour of the constellations. Learn to navigate the heavens and understand the "tools of the trade," from refractor telescopes to complex mounting systems.
🪐Popular Talks on Astronomy: Deep dives into the mysteries of the universe—from the Big Bang to the life cycles of stars—presented in a way that is accessible to all.
Let us celebrate the skies!
