As one of the oldest science, astronomy has played a role in the development of cultures and society throughout the world, and across different generations. Cultural astronomy explores the diverse ways in which the heavenly bodies have been, and continue to be, part of our shared heritage as a species.
Speaker Bio:
Norman Marigza is an astronomer, educator, and science communicator who also serves as the AWB National Coordinator for the Philippines. He first got involved with ethnoastronomy through his various engagements for dark sky preservation and awareness. He also established a Working Group for Philippine Cultural Astronomy, and is actively promoting Philippine Ethnoastronomy. Among his projects is
Kalawakan
- an observation guide that is contextualized to local ethnoastronomy.
