PERSEID CAMP OF SARM IN 2024 (AN ASTROPOETRY ANTHOLOGY)

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

.

On August 9-15, 2024, the Romanian Society for Meteors and Astronomy (SARM) organized the 32nd edition of its Perseid cultural-astronomical camp at Runcu Stone. Here is the astropoetry anthology of this event (all works were translated by me from Romanian to English, with the exception of the one by Gabriel Neagu, ambassador of the American Association of Variable Star Observers).

PERSEIDS 2024

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe

.

New celestial show,

new forms of joy,

so old meteor shower!

.

UNDER THE LIGHT OF THE PERSEIDS

By Valentin Grigore

.

How many poets have there been

and how many sentiments have flowed

since we looked at the sky?

.

The stars give themselves unconditionally,

when the light of the sky

and that of the soul meet.

.

And the meteors come from afar

and find their end

just to delight us for a moment.

.

MY PERSEID

By Stefan Niciev (high school student)

.

You appeared like a spark of an unknown fire,

you left Perseus shy, scared.

Being afraid of the future,

don't know what to expect?

Just feel that you are alive,

dear Perseid!

.

Suddenly, you grew up,

you seemed untouchable,

you encompassed the whole earth

and I with you suddenly

looked through you at the whole world...

and I loved you,

dear Perseid!

.

And it hurt me and it hurt us

to see how our youth began to fade away

like some faces you see

on your banal road

to your simplistic routine

where you forget to be loyal to your soul.

A sad life awaits me, my Perseid!

.

Perseids keep passing by,

I cross the whole world,

but I don't see them,

I stay so dry thinking of you,

my dear Perseid!

.

PERSEID HAIKU

By Alex Vizitiu

.

Colorful streaks blaze,

Perseid meteors flash brightly

Night’s fleeting dance.

.

AT “PERSEIDS 2024”

By Stefan Cristache (high school student)

.

In a strange, hopeless world,

I wish for a meteor to appear

on its celestial path

that will truly bring you back to life,

to remember everything,

man, sky and the blade of grass,

connection and love for the stars.

.

Astronomy...

The art and science of

becoming a friend of the firmament

and understanding it.

.

THE GIRL FROM THE PERSEID CAMP

By Gabriel Neagu (student)

.

Her eyes, like Perseids gleam,

In green, they trace a dream.

A fleeting light in night’s embrace,

Her gaze, a star’s soft grace.

.

In her eyes, the heavens play,

A dance of light that fades away,

But in her gaze, I find my way,

A guiding star that’s here to stay.

.

Within her soul, the Cosmos sings,

A Universe in every fling,

Her spirit shines, a constant flame,

A guiding star that knows my name.

.

THE PERSEIDS

By Delia Motoc

.

Passion for the sky-home,

Eternal, unconditional,

The retina bleeds with longing,

The soul calls them,

The echo of stellar love,

Intense, undeniable,

Proof of our existence.

Enigma or wonderful burden?

Tears of love reflect

Pure emotion.

.

THE OUTBURST OF A PERSEID FIREBALL

By Catalina Pop

.

I used to be a spark.

Now I am a star!

.

THE WHISPER OF THE AURORA, THE CRY OF THE PERSEIDS, THE VOICE OF LOVE

By Erik Culescu (high school student)

.

Under the high vault, silent and vast,

the Perseids burn,

the eternal fire does not die,

lights pierce the cruel night, ominous,

like your eyes that tear my heart apart.

.

And suddenly the aurora rises,

a dance of colors in the expansive and full sky,

but its beauty pales in comparison to your face,

which in my soul is caught

like a sigh in the stars.

.

Light and shadow meet in mystery,

in an evening painting,

with soothing perfume,

but your face, my love, is sweeter

in the ether than any light

carried by the cosmos in our sky.

.

Under the veil of night, the sky spoke to us,

in whispers of aurora and twinkling stars...

.

HIGH TREASON

By Andrei Dorian Gheorghe –

.

.The Perseids always jump

outside our native constellation.

What a terrible lack! -

was the sad reaction

of the stars Algol and Mirfak.
