About Me....

Hello,
My name is George Saar and I am a retired Design Engineer, CAD Specialist and amateur astronomer.  Moved to Virginia from New York a year ago just prior to the Global “shutdown” caused by the Covid Pandemic concerns.
My initial interest, in astronomy, began when my wife and I were looking up at the stars one night and saw two meteors streaking in the sky only a minute apart.  A few more after that.  Just luck, I guess, but that astronomical light show inspired us to go out the next day and purchase our first telescope - a Nexstar 8i goto system and a Pentax 60mm binocular.  First object we observed was Saturn and after that humbling experience it was onward to enjoying hundreds of DSO’s, our Moon and planets.  We enjoy going out on clear nights with our binoculars and various telescopes whenever possible.
When AWB first attended NEAF in Suffern NY, I visited their booth, discussed their mission,  and checked out their prototype 5 inch tabletop dobsonian telescope and waited for it to be avilable.  I purchased one soon after.  I enjoy receiving the regular updates from AWB and am happy to be part of this global community.  The more people get out and enjoy the wonders of the night sky the better chance there is to all understand that we are all living on a small fleck of dust in this incredibly massive universe and should all appreciate the blessings of diverse life we have, instead of finding reasons to work against each other.
We are all the same “star stuff” after all…..
Best regards to everyone and stay healthy and safe.
