Shy science?

Why science is so shy? Does it solely depend on personal convictions, the state of knowledge? Why it’s easier to deny something a priori, than to make bold, however more reasonable assumptions?

(Un)fortunately history has shown many times that even far, allegedly unavailable, frontiers can be crossed when a pursue for impossible is driven by perseverance. Wars invariably were, and still are, crucial catalysts of these processes. Why then so many ideas, visions have to be ridiculed first or called sometimes pure insane? Why in some aspects of day-to-day life nothing has changed significantly over the decades i.e.: invasive medicine, universal usage of fossil fuels? When a true twenty first century comes? Perhaps, it’s a matter of the connected vessels system. A sustainable growth of mankind in all essential dimensions, not only technological one.

What next with science then? This issue bothered – and continually does – many bright minds and visionaries. One can find among them common Joe Doe either, though he will rather be represented by a minor fraction of the whole society. Undoubtedly, in the quest of the future of science, there are many cul-de-sacs, traps and, more or less unambiguous, moral, ethical threats. Therefore, in the situations like these, science should never give up its shyness. Who really knows or is able to accurately predict, how many Pandora’s boxes are hidden behind various, doubtful experiments? Once open, there will be no alternative. Let’s look around. Semi-autonomous drones are just paving the way to A.I. reign. Our hope or loss. A judgement day? Sounds familiar…?

No matter how the fates of the world we know will go on, one thing has to be clearly told. Science isn’t completely shy and indeed never was, showing repeatedly its dark but also bright side. Nevertheless, a mystery remains its second name. It can keep the secret, albeit leaks happen. Therefore, it will, for sure, surprise us more than once. We should be ready then for the next step. Mankind 3.0.
