As part of Global Astronomy Month 2025, we organised an outreach event at the Department of Astronomy, Osmania University. Participants could view the Sun through a 6-inch Newtonian reflector telescope and observe its surface, including sunspots. This was followed by an insightful lecture and hands-on session led by Dr. J. Rukmini, Assistant Professor in the Department of Astronomy at Osmania University. During the hands-on session, the participants determined the rotation period of the sun using the motion of sunspots. Afterwards, participants enjoyed a tour during which they interacted with us about various telescopes at the department, including a 12-inch Meade LX200. We engaged with more than 100 participants throughout the event.
We are grateful to Dr D Shanti Priya, HoD & Associate Professor, Department of Astronomy, Osmania University, for supporting and encouraging us in organising this session.
