Discovering the solar system: projects for the keen–eyed, camera–toting, and binocular wielding observer The “ Big Moon” Illusion a naked eye and camera activity Casual skywatchers since the time of the ancient Greeks have seen the rising moon as appearing much larger than after it has climbed higher in the sky. The moon is often portrayed in film and television as being very large and bright when it is near the horizon. All this flies in the face of the fact that the actual apparent size of the moon, whether it is rising or it is at its highest point in the sky is quite small. Fully extend your arm and outstretch your hand. The moon’s apparent ...

The farthest I've come...

Yesterday, after a few weeks, today is cloudy with clear skies almost all night. Of course, this is a great time to see where the DWARF II can go. So I aimed far away: the Whirlpool Galaxy - M51, which is 23 million light years away from the Milky Way... Total exposure of about an hour. I must say this is pretty amazing for a "telescope" with a focal length of 100mm (ten centimeters!!!!) and an 8 megapixel camera. I have known this object for many years. I watched it through telescopes with relatively large apertures, 10, 12, 14, and even 16 inches, and I have never seen anything like what this tiny device allows... This is the image that came out of the device ...

Yesterday I participated in a special event for the guys from "Nova" who survived the massacre on October 7 on the border of the Gaza Strip. Dear friends, asked me to come with a telescope to the "Be'erot" Night Camp, which is located in the Ramon Crater Colors Geological Park. And when asked so nicely, I don't refuse. All the way there I looked at the sky which was covered with many clouds. Even when I drove from Beersheba the clouds did not budge. I arrived at the wonderful Ramon Crater Colors Geological Park. Big respect to Nature and Parks Authority and everyone who made the place so beautiful and especially accessible! When I arrived at the Be'erot ...
